According to the Wikipedia dictionary an ultimatum (Latin: the last one) is a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance. An ultimatum is generally the final demand in a series of requests. As such, the time allotted is usually short, and the request is understood not to be open to further negotiation.
I received such an "ultimatum" by the love of my life. He has been fighting me on this long distance hike the day I started planing it - about 2 years ago. I will not get into details of the ultimatum. But I will tell you this, this hike will happen and if it is the last thing I will do in my life.
If you feel I should proceed with this hike forward this blog and support me financially. My promise to you is that I will pay every little bid of kindness forward.
Gratefully,
Alexandra

Free Things We Have Forgotten About

The economy is a little more difficult these days. I can tell on the little interest and participation of the support of my hike, which I will start the end of April of the coming year. Even the riches are trying to hold their money together as much as possible.
Regardless of our situation, there are some things that have always been free, and always will be free. It is within each and everyone of us. But sometimes we forget about these things when hardship comes along. I admit, even I lost sight for a little bid. But this morning I received an e-mail with the following words that pulled me back and reminded me of all the great things we already posses within:
"Everything that's really worthwhile in life comes to us free - our minds, our souls, our bodies, our hopes, our dreams, our intelligence, our love of family and friends and country. All of these priceless possessions are free."
~ Earl Nightingale ~
I wish you all a very Happy Halloween!!!

Prime Body Boot Camp
I found above YouTube video on "Team April's Breast Cancer Blog". These exercises helped April getting her strength back after chemo. Click on the title (Prime Body Boot Camp) and you'll be at her blog if you'd like to read more about her.
Hope you all have a great day!

October - Breast Cancer Month
October is the month of a lot of breast cancer activities nation wide.
It's been a year that I have tried to reach peoples heart and raise money to support my upcoming long distance hike. So far with very little support. The donations given to me allowed me to purchase a 70 L backpack, hiking boots, trail runners, compass, and a few other smaller items - no less expensive.
The money came from as close as Salt Lake City, UT and as far as Europe and Africa. Yes, the internet is a wonderful tool. Thanks again to the people who supported me so far.
We all know, the economy is not at its best these days. This obviously doesn't keep people from spending money on things they really don't need, which is a good thing for our economy . It keeps things rolling.
I would like to remind you though, this hike is to raise money to find a less radical, more effective and therefor much better cure for cancer then the one available right now (mostly chemo therapy and radiation).
If there is anyone out there who has connections to people who are willing to support my hike and sponsor it for the right reason, please have them contact me at Alexandra@HikeForBreastCancer.com or call me at 406-322-2642 and leave a message. Sorry folks, I don't answer my phone at work. If you are using Skype you may also use the "Call Me" button in the top right corner of this blog. You can leave a message there as well.
Your effort is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Alexandra Evans

Why I am Hiking ...
Dear friends,
The video below was created by me when I had every intention to hike in 2009. I postponed the hike by one year because my son, Rodney Jr., who is in the Army, insisted that I needed to do some serious training first!! Not that I didn't hear that one from my husband, Rodney Sr., and my daughter, Mercedes, previously. I guess at one point I just had to listen to my concerned family.
In regard to the wrong mileage on the video - well, it was a simple typo. The trail is in fact 2,650 miles IF there are no detours involved.
Yes, I posted this video and the story about my Mom a couple of times before. I will probably post it a few more times, because I want everyone who reads my blog to see who I am and why I am hiking.
Video below are pictures of my childhood/adulthood and my family.
The song was composed by my sister Franziska Bold just for
this video and blog. She's a professional musician and composer.
This is the story about my mother
and the story of many other mothers worldwide.
My mother is not only my mother, but she is the mother to my six sisters and my brother, who is the youngest of us. In December a few years ago, I received a phone call from one of my sisters that our mother had breast cancer. It crushed us. You see, to us, and I believe I can speak for my siblings and our father when I say this, our mother has always been, still is, and always will be much, much more than “just” our mother.
Our mother is our best friend, our teacher, our guide, our support, our role model. She’s loving, kind, and beautiful. She is our guardian angel, with her continuous prayers, and the strength of our family. She’s been a humble servant to all of us, physically and mentally, all of our lives.
My parents got married in 1953. They are a match made in heaven. They have been through hard times and great times. But through it all, they were always here for us kids. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart in the name of all of us kids.
My mother has a very happy and positive nature. Apparently, she had known for quite some time that she had breast cancer. Nonetheless, she was not about to say anything, because she did not want us to worry. The thought of losing our dearest mother was unimaginable. It was not the happy Christmas we enjoyed so much every year. It was rather a Christmas filled with tears and fright. She had her operation in January, and to our surprise, she was happy and smiling. She was relieved that she no longer had to carry the burden of hiding. The hospital staff was surprised as well, because they never had a “happy” breast cancer patient before. What an incredible woman. The following months were especially hard on my dad. He cared for her all around and was grateful for every smile. Thank God for my parents. Thank God for still having them with us.
With Gratitude,
Alexandra

An e-mail I received ...
We all know someone who has passed from cancer or is fighting it off.

Her name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to her is her fiancé, Nick, 23.
This picture was taken prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005. Katie has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy.
Here Nick awaits while she finishes one of the sessions...

Even in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of morphine, Katie took care of every single part of the wedding planning.
Her dress had to be adjusted several times due to Katie's constant weight loss.
An expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie had to use it during the ceremony and reception.

Katie, in a wheel chair listening to her husband and friends singing to her.

In the middle of the party, Katie had to rest for a bit and catch her breath. The pain does not allow her to stand for long period of time.

Katie died 5 days after her wedding. To see a fragile woman dress ed as a bride with a beautiful smile makes you think... happiness is always there within reach, no matter how long it lasts.....lets enjoy life and don't live a complicated life. Life is too short.
Work as if it was your first day.
Forgive as soon as possible.
Love without boundaries.
Laugh without control
and never stop smiling.
Please support my hike for exactly this reason. Thank You.
